In Development:

Brooklyn at Eye Level
In Fall 2008, The Civilians begins a long-term in-depth investigation into the Atlantic Yards development and its effect on the surrounding communities. Civilians Associate Artists, urban planning students, and local youth will come together to create a portrait of a changing borough, engaging issues of development, urbanization, rezoning, displacement and gentrification.

THE GREAT IMMENSITY
The Great Immensity is a theater project about the complex and radical changes happening in our environment, based on interviews conducted in arctic Canada and tropical Panama with scientists, botanists, polar bear tour guides and port dock workers.

THE CIVILIANS' PORN MUSICAL
The Civilians partners with Center Theatre Group, the premiere theater institution in Los Angeles (recently transferred 9 to 5 to Broadway) to create the first major musical about the adult entertainment industry. This ground-breaking show will be inspired by the real life stories of the people who work in the field.

Completed Shows:

This Beautiful City
The Civilians investigate the Evangelical Christian Political Movement through the fascinating and complex mountain town that is its headquarters. Developed in collaboration with Z Space Studio and Colorado College.

Paris Commune
Inspired by an actual concert that took place in the overthrown imperial palace during the 1871 revolution, Paris Commune uses the cabaret form to stage this attempt to radically reinvent society.

SHADOW OF HIMSELF
This new piece combines The Civilians' documentary process with the sensibilities of playwright Neal Bell to produce a modern retelling of the classic Gilgamesh epic.
